  An ancient city built on the foothills of Muğla: Euromos. Euromos is a ‘strong’ city that has hosted more than one culture and has hosted people from countless nationalities.

  The 16 columns of the Zeus Lepsynos Temple, one of the best preserved temples in Anatolia today, have been standing for centuries without needing any renovation. It is known that this temple was built in the 2nd century AD, but during the excavations, it was revealed that there are older temples built in the 6th century BC. At the time it was built, the name of the person who bestowed it was engraved on each column and has survived to the present day. In Labranda, where the Carians lived, the symbol of Labrys, which means double-ended ax, is also seen on these columns, showing us that this ancient city also belonged to the Carians. Euromos is known as one of the ancient cities that must be visited, with its magnificent structure and the history that lays under our feet.

  It is known that it was also called Kyromos, Hyromos, Europos, Eurome in ancient times. He was under Macedonian rule for a while and his name was Philippoi. During the Roman Empire, it continued to exist and became a developing city. The traces of the large city walls remaining from the Romans are still present today. The craftsmanship of many of the buildings built at that time attracts attention today.

  It is located in Kızılcakuyu neighborhood of Muğla-Milas district. It is possible to see the temple, which is located 12 km from Milas on the Bodrum-Milas road.Signs will accompany you along the way.

  Euromos impresses those who see it with its location and nature. The ancient city, which is visited with interest by local and foreign tourists, is getting more valuable every day. It creates wonderful memories with its fairy-tale image at sunrise and sunset.

  The ancient city, which is spread over a wide area, has many parts. In Euromos, which is still being discovered today, there are the Temple of Zeus, the theater, whose capacity is estimated to be about 2 thousand people, underground tombs, baths, and walls. There is an agora section, where the people lived and traded at that time, and the ruins of which have survived to the present day. The inscription in this section contains the remains of an agreement with another city.

Euromos is described as a treasure that is still being discovered. Although this ancient city was started to be discovered in the 1960s, the work was interrupted for a long time and recently started again. It is stated in the ruins that the Carians living in this city had a unique structure and many animal figures were engraved on the structures.
