Eyelid Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid aesthetics, also known as blepharoplasty, is the process of removing sagging skin and tissues from the eyelids and stretching the eye area. Eyelid drooping and wrinkles around the eyes can occur for many reasons and can disturb patients. The loss of elasticity of the skin with advancing age can cause sagging of the eyelid and wrinkles on the eyelid. Age is an important factor in the formation of eyelid wrinkles, but it can also occur due to structural factors or not paying attention to skin care. Insufficient moisturizing of the skin, excess skin on the eyelids, fatigue, insomnia and smoking can cause eyelid wrinkles to appear at an early age. With eyelid aesthetics, the changes in the eye area due to aging and environmental factors are eliminated, and the eyelid and its surroundings are provided with a younger, healthier and aesthetic appearance.

How is the operation done? What are the stages?

Eyelid aesthetics is the process of removing excess skin on the upper eyelid and eye bags if present. Eyelid aesthetics can be performed under local or general anesthesia. After the eyelid is anesthetized, a thin incision is made on the skin of the eyelid and excess skin and bags are removed. Then, stitches are placed on the operation area and bandaged for a week. A more effective result can be obtained by performing eyelid aesthetics together with forehead stretching and eyebrow lifting operations when necessary. Depending on the patient’s preference, cantopexy (almond eye) surgery can also be performed together with upper eyelid aesthetics.

Lower eyelid aesthetics, on the other hand, is applied to remove collapses and bags under the lower eyelid. The reason for the collapse of the lower eyelid is the sagging of the fat pad on the cheekbones with aging. The appearance of collapse in the lower eyelid, where the fat pads are hung back to their original places, disappears. If the bagging on the lower eyelid cannot be removed with this procedure, the sagging skin and muscle are surgically removed under the eyelid. If the under-eye sunkenness continues after these procedures, this situation is eliminated by injecting oil under the eye.

Who is it suitable for?

Eyelid aesthetics are generally suitable for patients over the age of 35 who show signs of aging on the eyelid. Signs of aging on the eyelid that require eyelid aesthetics:

  • Bags under the eyes
  • Drooping upper eyelid
  • Wrinkle on the eyelid
  • Sagging of the upper eyelid

What are the Risks and Advantages?

The advantages of eyelid aesthetics are:
