  Ayvalık is one of the important tourism centers of Turkey, which is located within the borders of Balıkesir province and has a coast on the Aegean Sea. Although Ayvalık has an important town population in the winter season, its population increases considerably with tourism in the summer season. Besides being an important holiday destination, Ayvalık has hosted important civilizations in the past. For this reason,     Ayvalık was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2017. Ayvalık is a coastal town where green and blue intertwine with its natural beauties, deep blue sea and Madra and Kaz mountains. Ayvalık is frequently preferred by those who want to have a sea holiday with its clean and cool water and beaches during the summer months. Ayvalık’s places to visit, natural beauties, architecture, history and famous taverns are also one of the reasons why holidaymakers visit Ayvalık.

Places to Visit in Ayvalık

1.Taksiyarhis Memorial Museum

  Taksiyarhis Memorial Museum is the first church of Ayvalık, a Greek settlement in the 16th and 17th centuries. It contains many icons that tell the life story of Jesus. This church located in the center of Ayvalık. 

2.Sattli Mosque (Church of Agios Yannis)

  This mosque, which draws attention with its impressive architecture, is one of the must-see places when you come to Ayvalık. The church, which was built in the 19th century as belonging to the Orthodox Christian Community, was converted into a mosque after the population exchange. When the bell tower was destroyed in the earthquake in 1944, a clock tower was built in its place and the mosque takes its name from here. The interior and exterior architecture of the mosque impresses visitors with its beauty.

3.Ayvalık Bazaar

  Ayvalık Bazaar is one of the must-see places with its souvenir shops, restaurants and houses reflecting Ayvalık architecture. Greek houses made of garlic stone specific to the region can be seen in the bazaar, reflecting the Ayvalık architecture. You can visit the shops selling local products and souvenirs in the bazaar, and eat at the restaurant famous with its seafood.

4.Sarımsaklı Beach

  Located 7 km away from Ayvalık town center, the beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region with its clean sea and sandy beach. It is preferred by many local and foreign tourists with its long coastline, clean sea and sandy beaches. It is possible to reach the beach by private car or by bus-minibus lines departing from the center of Ayvalık. Sarimsakli Beach, which has many cafes along the coastline, has a public beach as well as private businesses.

5.Devil’s Feast

  Devil’s Feast is a hill with a wonderful view in Ayvalık and frequently visited by tourists. At the location where the Devil’s Feast is located, the magnificent view of Lesbos and Ayvalık islands can be seen, and it is also very enjoyable to watch the sunset.The Devil’s Feast takes its name from the rock with a footprint thought to be the devil’s footprint. Today, this area where the footprints are found has become a place where wishes are made and rags are tied. There is also a cafe, viewing area, restaurant and parking lot on the hill where the Devil’s Feast is located.
